During the 2026 FIFA World Cup: Gespa joins European statement on prediction markets
Gespa publishes a joint statement between the gaming regulatory authorities from Belgium, Germany, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal and Spain today. The initiative aims to raise consumer awareness of the risks associated with prediction markets.

Sports betting: controls relating to the protection of minors
In its decision of 11 June 2026, Gespa states that the publication of the results of mystery shopping carried out by minors in the land-based sports betting market is in accordance with the law. The decision is not yet final.

Private betting
Betting games (e.g. at an EM or WM final round tournament) are permissible if they fulfil the definition of a private game according to the Gambling Ordinance (Art. 1).

Sports betting: controls to protect minors
In 2025, as part of its supervisory activities in the land-based sports betting market, Gespa commissioned test purchases by minors to get a sense of how regulatory requirements were being implemented. The results cannot be published until further notice.

23.01.2026:
New authorisation «Loterie électronique»
At its first meeting of the year, the Supervisory Board gave Loterie Romande an initial gaming licence for its technologically upgraded Loterie électronique. Individuals who are subject to a gambling ban in Switzerland will be excluded from participating in the Loterie électronique. Players are also required to set loss limits.

17.12.2025:
Federal Court upholds Gespa's decision to block access to the domain of a provider of digital trading cards and related online games
Gespa had blocked access to the disputed domain by order of October 2021. The company concerned subsequently took the case to the Federal Supreme Court. In its ruling of 18 November 2025, the Federal Supreme Court dismissed the appeal and upheld the decisions of the lower instances.

New study on gambling behaviour
ESBK and Gespa are once again investigating gambling behaviour in Switzerland. The results are expected to be available in autumn 2027.
